massive delivered the first ever spectator area outside of a stadium for the IAAF World Championships 2017 in the World Heritage site of the Tower of London.
the team were tasked with overcoming the combined challenges of working within one of the UK’s busiest tourist attractions, protecting a World Heritage Site and installing infrastructure into a site with no vehicular access.
to overcome these challenges we pulled together a team of over 150 staff, crew and suppliers who were supported by a 300-ton crane to lower infrastructure into the moat. the team completed the work in only 5 days, a shorter time period than ever before for an event in the moat.
the results were a spectacular 2,000 capacity spectator area featuring a stage with live action commentary from a TV studio set and a 500-capacity hospitality marquee with its own grandstand with a front row view of all the action from the main stage & three large screens.
the event finished with the historic medal ceremonies after the men’s and women’s marathons. never before in IAAF World Championships history have marathon medals been awarded outside the main athletics stadium.
XYZ required expertise in mass participation for their Nike Milers event, our delivery team provided consultation and staff on the ground in this truly unique one mile event in an underground car park.
we partnered with our friends at Drive Productions to deliver a ground-breaking launch event for Adidias Ultra Boost Shoes. the Energy Takeover was a running event like no other, delivering multiple 10k race routes in one city centre event.
the concept mixed running and urban adventure with phones, light installations and video content capture to deliver a unique, personalised and memorable experience for each participant.
massive worked with Team Origin on the 2015 & 2016 America’s Cup World Series Portsmouth bolstering the operations team from the early stages of pre-planning, through to on-site management of the event village during build, event & derig – managing all suppliers, sponsors & stakeholders.
for the 2016 ACWS, Team Origin recruited massive to source and manage 30 street food traders for the event village.
in addition the massive delivery team developed and executed the event’s accreditation system for more than 1,500 staff & contractors in both years.
massive has worked with Adnams since 2016 delivering two impressive fan parks on the banks of the River Thames for The Boat Races. entering into its third year as the Official Beer Partner, massive is once again working with the Southwold-based brewery providing a fan zone for the 2018 event.
the fan zones in 2016 and 2017 were attended by thousands of spectators throughout the day which was situated in Furnivall Gardens, Hammersmith. featuring bespoke elements developed by massive including a bar built from reclaimed wood, branded huts selling drinks and merchandise units and six impressive custom-build Beach Huts for VIP competition winners.

with a big screen streaming The Boat Races live and street food market on site, the Adnams fan park proved a popular location for Hammersmith residents, London revellers and tourists.
massive and the NSPCC originally developed the concept for a family friendly obstacle course.
starting with limited insight and a single mood board we developed and tested an event concept and a detailed business case. we supported this with market insight and presented to the board.
massive then took the event live this summer. dealing with the design and build of all the obstacles along with finding suitable venues for the event the team successfully delivered 3 events with over 2,000 participants.
the NSPCC plan to grow the series in 2018 with the number of events yet to be confirmed.
massive was appointed by Aldi to activate the UK-based supermarket’s partnership with Team GB during the 2016 Rio Olympics.
massive designed and produce a bespoke pop-up activation which could be easily transported to multiple locations, whilst creating an impactful brand representation of the leading supermarket chain.
a three-week tour, coordinated by the massive operations team, took the Aldi Taste Kitchen and Smoothie Cycle Challenge to London; Manchester; Bristol; Bradford; Cardiff & Glasgow.
the outdoor activations were created in conjunction with Aldi’s on-going initiatives to engage staff, suppliers & customers including the supermarket’s backing of the British Olympic Association’s schools education programme, Get Set & Team GB’s Homegrown Heroes.

massive were employed by Refuge to deliver their flagship event; Walk4. Now in its 3rd year the event, which has raised over £150k for the charity, is a 10k walk that crosses over four of London’s most iconic bridges, Tower Bridge, Millennium Bridge, Westminster Bridge and Southwark Bridge.

He has experience in turning around declines in a number of events, and has worked on 8 of the UK’s 20 biggest fundraising projects, as Head of Events and Product Development for Cancer Research UK, he led the UK’s largest charity marketing and events team for over three years and developed 2 events which still deliver over £4m each year.
He most recently led on fundraising integration and strategy for Breakthrough Breast Cancer and Breast Cancer Campaign as they merged to form Breast Cancer Now
James is an experienced project, production and operations director of mass participation events.
James’ ability to develop, deliver and present complex event plans has seen him produce a large breadth of fantastic participant and spectator experiences in sport, music and brand activation in a whole host of environments.
Working for over a decade on end to end event delivery James’ skills have been employed by some of the biggest agencies and events rights holders in the world, including Ride London, LOCOG, London Marathon, Limelight Sports, RPM and Professional Sports Group, to name a only a few.
Katie is a skilled account and project director, having worked across the full spectrum of events from marketing and PR to on the ground delivery.
Working across sporting, hospitality and cultural events Katie has successfully delivered a wide range of programs from grassroots sporting tournaments through to £3m+ budget projects.
Having recently completed a four-year stint in the Middle East as Head of Events for Professional Sports Group, Katie has invaluable experience in client and stakeholder management from top-level directors through to crew and staffing management.

A sporting enthusiast with a passion for events. Charlie joined us in January from Professional Sports Group where he worked on their global portfolio of mass participation sports events. He previously worked at Chime Sports Marketing and has also delivered projects for Harlequins Rugby Club and worked at Wimbledon.
Charlie has a masters degree in marketing from Loughborough University where he specialised in sports business, market research and consumer behaviour.
Louise joined massive in July after 8 years experience as a project coordinator.
Louise was an integral part of the operations team for The Isle of Wight Festival for 12 years site managing camping experiences for the public and vips.
Louise experience spans across hospitality, project management & brand activation.
She recently oversaw operations at The Great North Run and Brighton Marathon.
Having recently graduated from Leeds Beckett University with a First Class degree in Event Management Danni has already worked on a number of national and international events.
Working across the sports, corporate and music event sectors Danni has honed an outstanding attention to detail, motivated work ethic and positive attitude.
Alongside her studies, Danni played an integral role in the London 2012 Olympics, Tour de France Grand Depart and numerous cycling, triathlon and running events alongside the Massive team.
Claire is an experienced innovator and passionate fundraiser, Claire has spent the past seven years developing and delivering fundraising events and campaigns for Cancer Research UK, working on Stand Up to Cancer, Events and Supporter Led Fundraising.
Claire is fascinated by consumer behaviour and finds opportunities to combine insight with strategic planning to successfully revitalise existing products as well as creating new income opportunities.
Jacq specialises in idea generation and strategic marketing planning for brands and mass participation events.
Her experience started with Shell, Diageo and AG Barr where Jacq developed and delivered award winning campaigns with event engagement at the heart of the strategy. Jacq then moved into the sports world working with Matthew Pinsent on a new sports drink and then went on to lead the marketing department at Limelight Sports. There she was involved in growing established mass participation sports events like Swimathon and launching the award winning, Royal Parks Foundation Half Marathon which has generated £20M over the 7 years.
Her recent work has been with Marie Curie on the Great Daffodil Appeal which achieved growth from £7M to £8.3M under her strategic and campaign management and the relaunch and management of an e-commerce retail brand which is delivering 65% growth YOY.
